Here is a conversation from today:
Person X: Are you still planning on homeschooling?
Me: Yes
Person X: Even with Gabe's issues
Me: More the reason to do so
Person X: WHY would you WANT to do THAT?
OH MY GOD!!!!!
Why is it that people feel they have the right to come up to home schoolers and ask "WHY would you WANT to do THAT?" I do not go up to people who as sending their children to Preschool, Public School, Private School or Day Care, "WHY would you WANT to do THAT?"
I am also the type of HOME SCHOOLER that is NICE. I don't share my beliefs on the school system with people (unless they specifically ask) and then I usually will sugar coat it. I just keep my beliefs to myself. But Dammit it already. DO NOT ask me again why I home school. Because if you do, you are very likely going to very clearly get told WHY I do not believe that it is proper to send MY children into an setting like school.

People are stupid. I am now getting those questions only replace "homeschool" with "Montessori". One lady sneered as she aske, "Do you actually like that method of teaching?" I smiled and replied, "Yes I do." You should tell the next person that asks you why you would want to do that, "Well, cause I am both a masocast and a sadist. That's why!" I bet they'd shut their trap then!
Cut 'em a little slack, Michelle. I ask myself the question once a day.
WHY would I WANT what is BEST for MY child? Search me.
Geez, some people need to keep their big mouths shut.
There is no winning. When I wanted to homeschool, my mil wanted to know why I wouldn't send them to school (Christian, of course). Now that I am sending them to public school, she wonders why I don't homeschool.
For the first 5 years or so of our homeschooling journey I always received a call just before school starts. "Are you sure you won't reconsider sending them to school?" I think the person finally caught on.
My other favorite "How can you homeschool with a baby in the house?" The baby is the easiest of the bunch and the least of my troubles.
HUGS! It only gets better and more interesting with time, but it's still so worth it.
I can never understand people who only think their way is right and have to force feed it to others. You are making the right choices for your family. Others need to take a hike!
Duh...my answer would be, Because I want what is best for MY kids...
I get crap for sending Miss V to her very small Christian school from some of our neighbors, oh yeah let me stick my shy dd in a public school with 20 something kids in a class where she is just a number, not just a sweet little girl.
You have my permission to beat the stupid person...
HUGS!
{{hugs}} Michelle
...12 yrs ago i got ALOT of flack for homeschooling Karley...I still worked in the salon...and you wouldn't believe the comments i got from the (older) women. Those that only knew "public-schooling" their children...as the ONLY way. You still have that indoctrination to deal with...that's for sure. It's just that people have to deal with their own guilty feelings...and ignorance...and indoctrination...ugh...KUDOS to all you...the NEW BREED of Home Schooling MOMS...You are raising the NEXT GENERATION of FREE-THINKING LEADERS and ENTREPRENEURS....good for you...keep up the good work...xoxo...a.jane
(((HUGS)))
If people spent more time worrying about what was best for their OWN kids instead of what someone else was doing with THEIR kids, the world would be a much better place (IMHumbleO).
YOU GO GIRL!!!
This is great info to know.
